The RSNO Scottish Proms 09...Dougie "the complete star"!
Dougie was thrilled to be invited by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to be the featured soloist at this years Scottish proms in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The review by Michael Tumelty that appeared in The Glasgow Herald described the concert as "their smartest post-Prom summer venture in recent years." He described presenter (renowned sports commentator) Archie MacPherson as "well prepared and played it straight down the park, with a judicious number of quips" then goes on to say "The critical element was that the RSNO divided the show. They invited Dougie MacLean in to do two sets so the show was evenly split with the RSNO and it's chorus...(with) conductor Grant Llewellyn".

He continued..."MacLean, a consumate performer, utterly laid-back, with a sound system that worked to perfection, and his songs clothed in simple but gorgeous orchestral accompaniments written by Paul Bateman and the late Kevin MacRae, was the complete star. He did nothing unexpected...but every song Ready for the Storm, Ca' the Yowes, Broken Wings, Heiland Harry, Green Grow the Rashes and of course his 'loveable monster' Caledonia, emerged as haunting and penetrating as ever".

It was a great night and here are a few photos taken by Jenny.

Just two short rehearsals with the orchestra and Grant Llewellyn the conductor...

The orchestra wove beautiful arrangemens around Dougie's songs and the 2000+ capacity audience gave Dougie a warm reception

There was a really warm onstage connection between Archie, Dougie and Grant

Dougie ends his performance with Caledonia...and then applauds the audiences fine singing!
